Nature Gone Wild!!
Life in Florida these days is fun. I feel as though I am under siege from the natural world, like an episode of when nature attacks!
In the past week there have been three shark attacks on the gulf side of the state. One was fatal and two were not. It seems there's a big bull shark moving down the coast. It's always scary when you hear about shark attacks. I've come to take ocean fun for granted, but it certainly makes you stop and think before going in. Fortunately, I live on the Ocean side of Florida so I have the whole peninsula between me and Jaws!
Two Hurricanes have popped up, meaning it's going to be another exciting year of rain, wind and forced evacuations. Cindy and Dennis, the thrid and fourth of the season. Cindy is making landfall in Louisiana as I write. Dennis looks like he'll take the same track and miss Miami, but you never can tell. Here is the Link to the National Hurricane Center, the best place to follow all the hurricane action! www.nhc.noaa.gov
As if all this wasn't bad enough, it's one of the worst mosquito seasons on record. I went Kayaking on Sunday and we got eaten alive while putting the boat back on the car. I had 43 welts after about ten minutes outside. They especially liked my feet and shoulders. I look like I have chicken pox on my arms and feet! The critters are relentless!! They laugh at my bug spray!
In conclusion, I haven't been eaten by a shark, I haven't been blown away by a hurricane, but I may have West Nile Virus from all the mosquitoes.
