Romancing the Phone

A friend of mine wants to set me up with one of his friends. He tells me this as we're sitting outside enjoying the sun after lunch. She has just text messaged him. He texts back that he has a great guy for her. She is interested.

The next day he tells me he spoke to her last night and gave her my phone number. Sweet!

Later she sends me a text message. It's weird to get a text message from just a phone number. It says "what up"
I reply "nt mch U?"
"wtng 4 surg"
"you sick?
"No Dctr"
"Cool"
"L8r"

I haven't called her yet. I kinda want to see how far I can get this thing with only text messages.

Doing Lunch in Miami

I broke down and had Scottish food for lunch today . I know it's terrible for me but I was in a rush, so I headed to the medical campus McDonalds. Me Encanta! They give a discount if you have a hospital ID, which I do! Yay discount!

I sat down at an empty table next to two young women, maybe nurses or med students. I hear Girl 1 say "I'm so glad we could get together. I fell like it's been forever since we talked." girl 2 agrees. Then her cell phone rings. She answers it and begins a conversation. After 5 minutes I am through my fries and Girl 2 is still on the phone. Girl 1 realizes she is shut out and takes out her phone and starts conversing with someone else.

Ten minutes later I slowed down as I walked past them. Girl 2 was talking about her weekend, still into the phone. Girl 1 was planning a shopping trip. Classic!

"I'm so glad we could get together. I fell like it's been forever since we talked."

Random Thursday fun

It seems appropriate to start this blog with a little happy hour story. Last Thursday was my buddy Dave's last day in the lab. After work we went out to a little Haitian bar called TapTap in South Beach. The drink of the day was Mojitos, because they are 2 for $6 during happy hour. Ridiculously cheap for SoBe. From Tap Tap the single members of the groups headed over the the Playright for Irish Car Bombs. Dave was convinced of the need for Car Bombs. Playwright is one of the few genuine Irish Pubs to be found in the Miami area. They have Irish staff and show live feeds of Premiership soccer early in the morning. We ended up playing pool there for a good 3 hours. At that point everyone took off. I wasn't set to drive yet so I went with my friend Anil up to Skybar at the Shoreclub to hang out with the Brown people until I was sober enough to drive home. We crashed the back VIP area to meet up with our friends who had been there for a while. The buzz was that Jamie Fox, recent Oscar winner, was in the back chilling. I'm terrible at celebrity spotting so I couldn't figure out where he was until he was pointed out to me. He's a big dude! He was somewhat less than incognito though, he was the only guy wearing mirrored sunglasses and a floppy sun hat while playing pool at 1:30 in the morning. As I was still not quite sober at this point I decided to put quarters on the pool table for next. In short order the game finished as Jamie called out "Who put quarters?"
"That would be me." I replied.
"Rack em up."
He introduced himself as Jamie, we shook hands and got the game under way.

I beat him good.

A few lessons from that evening. Jamie Fox is strong, be careful shaking his hand. Don't drive if you're not sober, you might miss playing pool with a celebrity(good advice no matter what the situation). Random stuff like this happens a lot in Miami.

Until next time, enjoy the Mojitos.
